What is Computer vision

Computer vision   is an   interdisciplinary scientific field   that deals with how   computers   can gain high-level understanding from   digital images   or   videos . From the perspective of   engineering , it seeks to understand and automate tasks that the   human visual system   can do. Computer vision tasks include methods for acquiring, processing, analyzing, and understanding digital images, and extraction of high-dimensional data from the real world in order to produce numerical or symbolic information, e.g. in the form of decisions. Understanding in this context means the transformation of visual images (the input of the retina) into descriptions of the world that make sense to thought processes and can elicit appropriate action. This image understanding can be seen as the disentangling of symbolic information from image data using models constructed with the aid of geometry, physics, st...

Autonomous driving technology

Driverless cars allow transportation and cities to be planned ina completely new and revolutionary way since technology is infinitely better at driving cars than humans are. Science fiction? No, probably not. This debate has evolved from discussing whether we will have autonomous cars to when they will become a reality. An autonomous car is controlled by an automatic driving system that does not need a physical driver. Most auto manufacturers are currently working intensely on projects in this field, and even companies like Google and Apple are in the race. “ We are heading towards an era when autonomous cars will be the new norm ,” says Kristian Palm, Head of Business Unit at Cybercom, who is involved in the development of the new technology. An example of a key role for Cybercom is as an integration and software development partner in the SCOOP@F project. This project was initiated by the French government and the EU in partnership with auto manufacturers Renault and Peugeot. I...

What Is Personalized Medicine?

Personalized medicine is the tailoring of medical treatment to the individual characteristics of each patient. The approach relies on scientific breakthroughs in our understanding of how a person’s unique molecular and genetic profile makes them susceptible to certain diseases. This same research is increasing our ability to predict which medical treatments will be safe and effective for each patient, and which ones will not be. Personalized medicine may be considered an extension of traditional approaches to understanding and treating disease. Equipped with tools that are more precise, physicians can select a therapy or treatment protocol based on a patient’s molecular profile that may not only   minimize harmful side effects and ensure a more successful outcome,   but can also help contain costs compared with a “trial-and-error” approach to disease treatment.

what is unhackable internet

A quantum internet could be used to send unhackable messages, improve the accuracy of GPS, and enable cloud-based quantum computing. For more than twenty years, dreams of creating such a quantum network have remained out of reach in large part because of the difficulty to send quantum signals across large distances without loss. Now, Harvard and MIT researchers have found a way to correct for signal loss with a prototype quantum node that can catch, store and entangle bits of quantum information. The research is the missing link towards a practical quantum internet and a major step forward in the development of long-distance quantum networks. sa "This demonstration is a conceptual breakthrough that could extend the longest possible range of quantum networks and potentially enable many new applications in a manner that is impossible with any existing technologies,"  id Mikhail Lukin , the George Vasmer Leverett Professor of Physics and a co-Director of Harvard Quantum In...
